The Scripps Research Institute has been awarded a three–year $600,000 grant from the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust to continue its widely praised Education Outreach Program at Scripps Florida in Palm Beach County. "I am extremely pleased that the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust has renewed its significant support of our education outreach efforts," said Deborah Leach–Scampavia, who directs the program. "This is a great testament to the value of our program and to the hard work of everyone involved, particularly our main partner, the School District of Palm Beach County. Health is the most important and basic need of any community. People live in dinghy, closed and clustered houses, attracting contagious diseases, owing to illiteracy, ignorance and poverty. Even minor disease like gastroenteritis, malnutrition, anemia, and common infection claim many lives from time to time. The major diseases like, tuberculosis, typhoid, hepatitis and malaria, play havouc and disturb the very lives of the poor people. Good health facilities remains a distant and unfulfilled dream, leaving women and children to remain appalled by these diseases. NCT has undertaken the following programs:

• Free T.B. Treatment: NCT has succeeded with utmost efforts in mobilizing funds for establishing a DOTS Centre in collaboration with Delhi State T.B. Control Society and Nehru Nagar T.B. Center (MCD), Govt. of India in the Basti and extends free diagnostic and treatment services to all the patients

• Free Eye Operations: Under the Curable Blindness Project, the NCT provides preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and operative (Cataract with I.O.L. implantation) services to hundreds of eye patients every year, with the collaboration of South Delhi Blindness Control Society, Govt. of India. NCT organizes such free eye checkup and operations camps, from time to time at various slums.

• Free Dispensaries, Clinics and Camps: NCT organizes appreciable number of free camps, dispensaries and clinics on different occasions at different places and extends treatment to thousands of patients irrespective of caste and creed. Free check-up camps for heart, lungs, diabetes, immunizations and mother and child clinics etc. were also on. NCT has successfully treated so far, over 3,00,000 poor patients free of cost.

NCT also conducts health awareness and education programs, meetings, seminars, exhibitions, street plays, and program related to environmental pollution in collaboration with the Green-Shield (Regd.) and Envo, Environment conscious organizations.

Drugs De-addiction, HIV & AIDS awareness: In association with the Delhi Aids Control Society, Govt. of India, NCT organizes meetings, seminars, exhibitions, free counseling etc. for the awareness of HIV,/AIDS and drugs de-addiction from time to time. NCT proposes to implement the Intervention Project in Slum and JJ clusters for prevention of STD and HIV/AIDS in south Delhi. The details about two separate projects were already submitted to the National AIDS Control Authorities, as well as the State Government for earliest approval.
